The National Council of Teachers of English recently awarded Harrison High School senior Glenn Shrum an Achievement Award in Writing, making him the only winner in Cobb County and one of only 12 in Georgia.

Shrum was one of 543 national winners out of 1,641 students nominated by teachers in their junior year for versatile and superior writing skills. He had to submit both an impromptu essay and a polished piece of his choosing.

"From spending hours of writing things for myself that no one else would ever see to finding that I can communicate real emotions and ideas to another person is a tremendous honor," Shrum said.
