KBA's 14U All-Stars Take Winning to New Heights

  • Name: 14U Kennesaw Generals
  • School or league: Kennesaw Baseball Association
  • Award: State Champions

Adams Park - It was a summer of success for Kennesaw Baseball Association's 14U All-Stars, The Kennesaw Generals.  Starting the summer with two local tournament victories, the Lake City Classic (Acworth, GA) and the Kennesaw Klassic, manager John Stafford led his squad to a 19-4 record.  "Our team was well-balanced with nine pitchers on the roster and a team batting average of .306" said Stafford.

After securing KBA's third consecutive 14U District 3 Championship, the Generals were invited to compete at the state tournament held in Jefferson, Georgia.  Enduring play through a record-breaking heat wave, the Generals plowed their way through the tournament winning the State Championship.  While going undefeated in the tournament the Generals outscored their opponents by an astonishing 45-11 margin.

As State Champs the Kennesaw Generals then went on to compete at the Dizzy Dean World Series in Southaven, Mississippi.  In a pool of fourteen teams from throughout the southeastern United States, the Generals placed third.  Their success in Southaven was highlighted by their victories over the Mississippi state champions, Florida's runner-up team, and local rival NYO.

Their success will be remembered longer than the waning days of summer.  As KBA board member and team parent Kim Ferguson poignantly commented "We had an awesome season and feel like we represented KBA in a positive manner.  These boys will remember the experience for a lifetime."

The 14U Kennesaw Generals players were Alex Bearden, Peyton Cobb, Michael Colcombe, Cole Ferguson, Johnny Hayman, Justice Law, Justin Phillips, Matthew Schwartz, Reilly Stafford, Mynor Urrutia, Junior Walters and Riley Ward.  Assisting John Stafford in coaching the boys were assistant coaches Steve Ferguson, Steve Schwartz, Francis Walters, and Chris Ward.
