Family of Car Crash Victim Grieves Loss

Chassity Hollaman, 20, leaves behind seven siblings and a fiancee after being killed in a car crash on Barrett Parkway.

Family members of Chassity Hollaman, the 20-year-old Marietta woman in Kennesaw last week, say they are searching for answers.

Hollaman worked two jobs and attended college at Chattahoochee Tech where she was studying to become a radiologist, said family members.

She leaves behind seven brothers and sisters, as well as a fiancee, whom she had recently become engaged to.

"She was a great child," said older sister Tasha Hollaman, 28. "She was a happy child."

According to Sgt. Dana Pierce of the Cobb County police, Hollaman was driving along Roberts just before 10:30 p.m. on April 20 when Alberto Jose Abreus of Kennesaw ran a red light on Barrett Parkway and struck her vehicle, causing her car to crash into a Ford Explorer stopped at the light.

Hollaman was taken to in critical condition and died Friday from her injuries.

Tasha Hollaman said the family isn't coping well with the sudden loss of their loved one and that everyone is left with questions.

"We don't understand what's going on here. We just don't know what's going on," she said.

Monday, Abreus, 20, was charged with second degree vehicular homicide and disregarding a traffic control device, according to investigators.

Tasha Hollaman said the family is confused as to why Abreus only faces second degree charges. "I don't know the law. I don't know what's going on," she said.

For the moment, she said she doesn't have any answers about justice.

"I just want my sister here with me, and she's not," she said.

In the meantime, the family is preparing for a private funeral service on Thursday.
