Get Out: Kiddie Gardening, Grown-up Blues

It looks like the weather for this weekend is going to be pleasant, with temperatures from the low to high 60s. Here are some weekend ideas geared to getting you out of the house.

1. “KIDDIE GARDENER” SERIES

Where/When: Smith-Gilbert Gardens; Friday, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why Go: Because you want to expose your preschooler with a green thumb to the wonders of nature and ecology.

Pricing: $5 per child (reservations are recommended; there is a new event every two weeks)

2. 8TH ANNUAL SOUTHEASTERN COWBOY GATHERING

Where/When: Booth Western Art Museum; Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m.

Why Go: Because you want to be immersed in the cowboy culture and hear western music, see western art and hear the finals of the Georgia Youth Poetry Contest.

Pricing: $10 admission

3. TEE LEAGUE & BANTAM LEAGUE BASEBALL REGISTRATION

Where/When: Dellinger Park; Today and Friday

Why Go: Because your kids are looking forward to playing ball and you're looking forward to getting them out of the house for a few hours.

Pricing: $65 registration plus $20 for non-Cartersville residents

4. MISSY FLAPJACK AND THE BUTTERWORTH BLUES BAND

Where/When: Henry's Uptown; Friday 9 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m., get there early)

Why Go: Because you want to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the same band that brought down the house on New Years' Eve with their mix of blues and rock-n-roll.

Pricing: $5 cover charge plus menu items; 21 and up only.

5. BARTOW COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY CONVENTION

Where/When: Bartow Country Republican Party Headquarters, 162 W Main St, Cartersville; Saturday, 9 a.m.

Why Go: Because you want to get involved in local politics and have your say about what matters to you in your community.

Pricing: Free
