Growler Vote Tabled

Members of the have two more weeks before deciding if they will allow the sale and refilling of growlers in the city limits.

The council voted to table a until its Sept. 4 meeting for further clarification of wording of city's alcohol ordinance. City officials said the city's attorney will look at the details of the ordinance's wording, such as “fluid ounces” versus ounces and the specifics of the containers (glass versus ceramic, for example), among other things.

If approved, the ordinance would allow draft beer to be sold in sealed containers in package outlets and would add a $200 growler license fee. City Manager Steve Kennedy has said that the beer would not be able to be consumed on the store's premises, just like other forms of alcohol, and that there is a specific process used to seal the container.

The council also appointed Bill Maxson to the Historic Preservation Commission to succeed David Ermutlu, who recently resigned; and appointed Eric Dec to the Ethics Board. Dec replaces Eileen Alberstadt, following an that .

In other business, the council:

• authorized a budget adjustment for fiscal year 2011-2012 for LaserFiche upgrade and training;
• approved a combination plat for the West 22 development on Cherokee Street;
• approved the final plat for Phase II of the Whispering Lake at Kennesaw subdivision;
• approved a resolution and right-of-way dedication and development agreement for West 22;
• approved of a beer, wine and Sunday sales package license for the Circle M Food Mart located at 3326 Cherokee Street;
• and reappointed Herb Richardson to the Urban Redevelopment Agency.
