Kennesaw State Student Dies Overnight
Jerry Coleman reportedly had his wisdom teeth removed just days before his death.
A Kennesaw State University freshman and standout high school basketball star has died at the age of 19. The Gwinnett Daily Post reports Jerry Coleman was found dead Monday morning after he reportedly passed in his sleep.
David Allen, Coleman's high school basketball coach at Central Gwinnett, told The GDP that the college freshman underwent a routine procedure to have his wisdom teeth removed on Friday and complained of some discomfort, but appeared to be fine Sunday night when he went to bed. He was found dead by his mother the following morning.
Coleman was named Lawrenceville Patch's Athlete of the Week in February. In that article, Allen told Patch, "Jerry is the silent leader on our team and is a great model for our entire program. He is the epitome of a student athlete and I am a better person for being around him for the last four years."
Allen told The GDP that after graduation, he still kept in regular touch with Coleman, who served as a mentor to younger kids. Allen said Coleman was considering trying out for Kennesaw State's basketball team as a walk-on.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
