National Kudos for Kennesaw's Wellness Efforts

In 2012, Kennesaw rolled out the Fit City Kennesaw initiative to combat obesity and inactivity.

Kennesaw has been honored nationally for its health and wellness initiatives.

According to city spokeswoman Pam Davis, the National League of Cities recently awarded Kennesaw nine medals for improving access to healthy, affordable food and increasing opportunities for physical activity.

The National League of Cities recognized Kennesaw for achieving milestones in reaching key health and wellness goals for Let’s Move! Cities, Towns, and Counties, which is a major component of First Lady Michelle Obama’s comprehensive Let’s Move! initiative.

“The Let’s Move! program is such a great compliment to our Fit City initiative emphasizing wellness at all ages,” City Councilmember Cris Welsh said. “Some of our recent accomplishments like completing new community walking trails and installing new exercise stations in Swift-Cantrell Park demonstrate our commitment to health and fitness.”
