The Kennesaw Branch Library will now operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday-Friday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. That's a total weekly reduction of 10 hours.
Kennesaw's West Cobb Regional Library will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, reducing its weekly hours of operation by five hours.
The Kennesaw branch was among 13 libraries on the chopping block in a proposed budget plan by Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee.
However, after thousands of e-mails and a silent protest in support of the county's libraries, the Board voted instead for an alternate plan, which included 10 percent departmental cuts, the closing of the Windy Hill Senior Center and the adult day care center, and five furlough days for county employees.
While the West Cobb Regional Library was never in danger of being shutdown in Lee's original plan, it will also operate at reduced hours.
