Welding School Opens in Kennesaw

Classes will start at Georgia Trade School later this month.

A new school focused on the field of welding opened today in Kennesaw.

Classes will begin at Georgia Trade School after the institution receives its paperwork from the Georgia Non-public Post-secondary Education Commission later this month and will be held 35 hours a week. The course takes 15 weeks to complete.

Ryan Blythe, the school's executive director, said that Kennesaw was chosen as the institution's location because of its reputation for supporting small business, and its proximity to Kennesaw State University and Chattahoochee Technical College.

In the coming years, Georgia will need 2,000 welders, Blythe said.

"The average welder is 54 and not enough are entering the workforce to replace those who are retiring," he said.
