Kennesaw State University’s College of Continuing and Professional Education will hold a Career Training Expo next week to showcase its professional certificate programs. The event will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26th, at the KSU Center. It is free and open to the public. The College has more than 45 professional certificate programs with instruction offered through online classes and on-site at the KSU Center. Kennesaw State University's Starlight Summer Concert Series continues this Sunday with a performance by Louisiana-based blues guitarist Eric Lindell. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Legacy Gazebo Amphitheater on campus. Described as a “tremendous talent with a poet’s soul” by the Chicago Sun Times, Lindell’s musical style borrows from 1970s blues-rock, creating a mix of soul, blues, R&B and jazz with a dash of country. Ten Kennesaw State University theatre and performance studies students will travel to Casablanca, Morocco in July to perform at the annual Fesitval International de Théåtre Universitaire de Casablanca sponsored by Hassan II Ben M'sik University. The production will be “The Eiffel Tower Wedding Party”, a surrealist farce by Jean Cocteau that is set on the first platform of the Eiffel Tower, where a photographer attempts to capture the perfect photo of a wedding party. Chaos ensues as unlikely creatures—an ostrich, a bathing beauty, a ravenous lion—escape from the camera each time the …
Kennesaw State University Professor Robert Sherer is featured in this week's Advocate.com's Artist Spotlight. In the feature article, Sherer answered questions about his work and his use of pyrography, or wood burning, as a medium. Sherer's career began as a gallery artist in 1980. He also served as director and publicist for the Lowe Gallery from 1992-1997. The interview with Sherer can be found here.
Tuesday's KSU Fix features a clip of "An Escape", written and directed by Michael Haverty, and performed at Kennesaw State University by The Object Group. According to Haverty's website, the Atlanta resident founded The Object Group, which is "an ensemble devising interactive performance installations mixing object theater, tableau vivant, and experimental performance." Kennesaw State is one of several locations where the group performs.
The Kennesaw State University College of Arts is gearing up for its Star Spangled Spectacular concert and fireworks show this Saturday. The pre-Independence Day celebration kicks off the university's Starlight Summer Concert Series, a summertime tradition for more than 10 years. The free event will be held on the campus green at 8 p.m. Admission opens at 6:30 p.m. The concert will feature music by the Georgia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, culminating with a fireworks show. The Kennesaw State University Department of Theatre and Performance Studies announced this week the schedule for its upcoming 2012-13 season. The season includes plays, student improv, storytelling and more. “This season we feature new works in varying stages of development and re-imagined classics,” said Dean Adams, associate professor and artistic director of the department. “Our work is very student-centric; we will have more than 100 students involved in every aspect of production, from creator to designer to performer.” “Every performance this season investigates human relationships in …
Kennesaw State University announced this week that its fifth on-campus housing facility is nearing completion. According to a release from the university, construction of the 207,500-square-foot University Place II residence hall began in October and is slated for completion before classes resume in August. The facility sits on six acres and will house 451 students, bringing the total number of on-campus beds to nearly 3,500. University Place II compliments Kennesaw State’s University Place I housing project, which opened in 2002. Both facilities are reserved for upper-class students. A new …

Kennesaw State University announced Wednesday the selection of nine Clendenin Graduate Fellows for the coming academic year. The master’s and doctoral students represent the fourth group to receive the award, which funds up to two years of master’s-level studies or up to three years of doctoral studies at any accredited educational institution. According to a statement from the university, the Clendenin Graduate Fellows Program was established at Kennesaw State in 2008 by the Clendenin Family with a $1 million endowment. Kennesaw officials announced that a new multi-use student housing project that will serve Kennesaw State students and provide shuttle service to and from the university is ready to proceed and scheduled for completion by the fall 2013 semester. The Sanctuary at Kennesaw wil occupy a recently-purchased 23.8-acre tract of land at the intersection of Cherokee and McCollum, according to a release. The development will include housing for 850 students as well as the Shops at Sanctuary, a planned 25,000-square-foot retail project. Kennesaw State University President Daniel Papp announced Wednesday the hiring of Erik Malewski as the university's new chief diversity officer. Malewski, who currently serves as an associate professor of curriculum studies at Purdue University’s College of Education, will begin the cabinet-level post at Kennesaw State effective July 1. Kennesaw State University President Daniel Papp will see his total compensation package increase by $50,523 to $370,000, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Papp is one of four Georgia college presidents who will receive pay hikes, effective July 1, due to action taken by the Board of Regents Wednesday, the AJC reported. Kennesaw State University unveiled the third and final phase of its new 88-acre sports and recreation park Monday afternoon—a facility which includes nine new fields, an NCAA-regulation track and a nine-acre lake adjacent to an 8,300-seat stadium. With funding from student fees, the newly completed section of the park features five synthetic-turf fields, two natural-turf fields, one intramural field, two warm-up fields and four sand volleyball courts. The Horace W. Sturgis Library at Kennesaw State University will host the last of a five-part reading and discussion series on the Civil War tonight at 7. The university received a $3,000 grant from the American Library Association  and the National Endowment for the Humanities to host "Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War." The library is one of 65 public libraries nationwide receiving grants to host the series, which encourages participants to consider the legacy of the Civil War and emancipation. With Earth Day fast-approaching, Kennesaw State University has been named one of the nation's most environmentally responsible "green colleges" by The Princeton Review. University officials announced Thursday that for the second consecutive year, Kennesaw State earned a spot in the Guide to 322 Green Colleges. The publication profiles institutions of higher education that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability in their academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation.
