5 Things: Early Release Day, Benefit for Cancer Survivor

Here are five things you should know before you leave the house today.

1. Today will be mostly sunny with a high around 89 and wind gusts up to 15 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 63.

2. Don't be late picking the kids up from school today. Remember, today is the second-to-last day of school for Cobb students and also, an early release day. All high school students get out of school at 11:30 a.m., middle schoolers get out at 12:30 p.m. and elementary tykes get out at 1:30 p.m. 

3. The will hold a work session today at 1:30 p.m. followed by a regular meeting at 7 p.m. in the commissioners boardroom at in Marietta. On the agenda, the master plan for Mabry Park will be presented to the commissioners at the work session with a vote to follow at the regular commission meeting. 4. In case you missed it, here's our story on an upcoming benefit for . Wednesday evening, community members from Kennesaw, Acworth and Marietta will gather together for an outdoor concert, dinner and silent auction to raise funds for Leland's medical bills. Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation will also be on site swabbing people to test for potential donor matches.

Advanced tickets are $15 and can be purchased here online by 12 p.m. Wednesday.  Tickets are $20 at the door. A family four-pack is also available for $50.

5. Did You Know? On this day in history in 1844, Samuel Morse sent the message "What hath God wrought" from Washington D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland to inaugurate the first telegraph line.
