5 Things: Heat Advisory, Photography Voting Deadline, Blood Drive

Here are five things you should know before you leave the house today.

1. According to the National Weather Service, a heat advisory has been issued for Cobb County and much of central and north Georgia from 11 a.m. today to 5 a.m. Wednesday. People are urged to drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun. Today's high will be near 96 with heat index values as high as 102. There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low near 72 and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m.

2. Kennesaw's Parks and Recreation Department is hosting an American Red Cross Community Blood Drive today from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Ben Robertson Community Center. Click here to schedule an appointment, or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Walk-ins are also welcome.

3. Stock up on some fresh fruits and veggies at the Kennesaw Farmers Market, blend up a smoothie and spend the day relaxing indoors and out of this awful heat. The market is open today from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located at 2753 Watts Drive (Adams Park Soccer Field Parking Lot). For more information on the market or becoming a vendor, call 770-499-0874 or 770-794-7075.
