Here are five things you should know before you leave the house today.

3. on Chastain Road is hosting its 2nd annual benefiting homeless pets. The event begins at 7 p.m. and will include live music, drink specials and door prizes.

4. Watch a performance of Melancholy Play tonight at 8 in Black Box Theater. The comedy about the sweetness and sexiness of sorrow may not be suitable for all audiences. There will be further performances 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Cost of admisssion is $12.

5. Did You Know? On this day in history in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was founded as part of the international Scout Movement. It would eventually become one of the nation's largest youth organizations with over 4.5 million youth members.
