5 Things: NCCS Wins Theater Award, Funding Approved for KSU Student Housing

Here are five things you should know before you leave the house today.

1. Today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 83 and a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. New rainfall amounts could be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Tonight's low will be around 60 with occasional showers mainly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. and new rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch.

2. In case you missed it, we covered last night's The board approved the five furlough days as proposed. Many attendees complained about the closing of the Senior Day Center in Marietta, as well as the funding and operation of the animal shelter. The families using the day center got a reprieve of one week, so they have until May 6 instead of this Friday to find new accommodations for the seniors who need the high level of care there.

As part of the consent agenda, the commissioners authorized the county’s development authority to issue $35 million in revenues bonds to the KSU Foundation to fund a new student housing project at Kennesaw State University.

3. Last night at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, students Audra Boyd and Carrie Anderson won the Shuler Hensley Award for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre in the Orchestra category for the school's production of "Disney's Beauty and the Beast."
