5 Things: School Is Out, Yacht Rock Revue Benefit Concert

Here are five things you should know before you leave the house today.

1. It's gearing up to be a hot Memorial Day weekend. Today will be sunny with a high near 90 and wind gusts up to 20 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 65.Β 

2. School is out! Today is the last day of school for Cobb students. Remember, the kids are released early today. High school students get out at 11:30 a.m., middle-schoolers get out at 12:30 p.m. and elementary students get out at 1:30 p.m.

3. Speaking of summer, join our Moms Council today at 1 p.m. for our weekly Moms Talk discussion. This week, local moms want to know how you plan to keep the kids occupied and prevent the summer boredom blues.

4. Tonight, community members are invited to an outdoor concert, dinner and silent auction at Legacy Park to raise funds for . Doors open at 5:45 p.m. with a live performance by Yacht Rock Revue starting at 6:30. Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation will also be on site swabbing people to test for potential donor matches.

5. In case you missed it, Cobb school superintendent finalist Dr. Michael Hinojosa visited the school district Monday. If he is hired after a mandatory 14-day waiting period, Hinojosa said he plans to listen to 100 people in his first 90 days on the job, then gather with school officials to determine his areas of focus.
