KSU to Honor Slain Kennesaw Soldier Today

Army First Lt. Jonathan Walsh was killed while leading his platoon on patrol in southern Afghanistan on April 22.

Veterans Day isn't until Sunday, but Kennesaw State University’s Army ROTC cadets will observe it today with two events.

The first, a tree-planting ceremony in memory of Army First Lt. Jonathan Walsh, begins at 11:45 a.m. on the campus green in front of KSU Hall. Walsh, a 2008 graduate of KSU's Coles College of Business, was . He was the first alum killed while serving in the military. Walsh's family will participate in the ceremony.

The second event, a keynote address from Maj. Stefan W. Hutnik, starts at 12:30 p.m., also on the campus green.

Hutnik, a KSU alum from Marietta, is a fire support instructor at Fort Benning, Ga., as well as an instructor at the Maneuver Captains Career Course, the Infantry and Armor Basic Courses, and the Officer Candidate School.
