Labor Day Begins a Day Early for Many

Many Kennesaw residents enjoyed pool parties and BBQ one day early because of the forecast of rains from Tropical Storm Lee today.

Tropical storm Lee may have changed the plans of many in Kennesaw this weekend.  Picnics and outings planned for today were moved back or changed when the forecast called for heavy rains on Monday.

Members of Owens Meadow pool on Jim Owens Road in Kennesaw gathered in large numbers for their annual Labor Day cookout -- on Sunday rather than Monday.  Organizers had planned it that way -- and were glad they did.  Kids and adults alike played in the swimming pool and ate BBQ at a potluck supper.  Door prizes were given out, a free 2012 pool membership was awarded, and live guitar music was heard in the background.

The only thing postponed Sunday at the pool?  The fireworks, and that was because the fire marshall said it was still too dry for such activities around Cobb.  "We'll save them for New Year's Eve," said one pool event organizer.
