New Gun Range Comes to Kennesaw

The 23,000 square foot facility is set to open just in time for the 2011 holiday season.

In a city known as "Guntown, USA" for a law requiring residents to own and maintain a firearm, it's only fitting that a new firing range is coming to town.

The Kennesaw Gun Club and Range is set to open around the 2011 holiday season and will be the city’s only in-town firing range.

The club is expanding from its first location, the Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range, to the city of Kennesaw, where $3.8 million will go into transforming 23,000 square feet into 21 lanes and three separate ranges, including one for tactical shooting with moving targets.

The facility will be located at the intersection of Kennesaw Due West Road and Cobb Parkway.

Club co-founders and sisters Cara Workman and Robyn Workman Marzullo said they wanted to provide a safe facility for hobbyists, hunters and those interested in self-protection to practice shooting and safe gun-handling without having to travel miles outside the city limits.

The sisters also said they wanted to create a space where women could feel comfortable.

“Women especially will benefit from learning at the range,” said Marzullo. “Many women buy guns for protection but don’t know how to use them.”

“We are very pleased that the Sandy Springs Gun Club chose our community for its newest location," said Bob Fox, the city's Director of Economic Development. "The club will have a very positive impact on the economy offering the highest quality facility and service. Kennesaw is a safe, welcoming community with a proven respect for responsible gun ownership, so the club will be a great addition.”

Kennesaw Police Chief William Westenberger added, “I’ve had a chance to visit the Sandy Springs location and was very impressed and excited to have the gun club coming to the Kennesaw community.”

The range will offer individual, family and corporate memberships. Other facilities will include a members-only lounge complete with leather furniture, card tables, plasma TVs and Wi-Fi, a classroom equipped with a Firearms Training Simulator and a retail counter offering a variety of firearms and accessories available for purchase.

Additionally, the venue will be available for rental for private parties and corporate events.

I AM EXCITED ABOUT IT. SHOOTING IS FUN. KILLING IS NOT-THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

It's about time... Kennesaw has had there gun law for 30+ years. I live here. My wife and I would like to join.

Sounds great! This facility will afford more folks in the area a place learn to use guns, practice and elevate the number of trained gun owners.

My husband and I would love to join! We need a place closer to home to maintain our skills with our firearms. Being a trained firearm owner is so important and I hope this facility will encourage people to learn to use their firearms correctly.

YES! WE need this . If you own a Gun you need to know how to use it.
Dale Davis April 01, 2011 at 11:27 PM
its about damn time, makes no sense to have a law to own a gun and not a place to buy or shoot.

It is extremely important as a gun owner & especially as a legal carrier of a concealed weapon, to be informed, trained, and proficient with any firearm you may own. This range is absolutely NECESSARY in a community such as Kennesaw where the percentage of gun owners is so much higher than the "national average". We each need to make a decision, not to simply only own a firearm, but to own, store, carry, and operate one in a safe & responsible manner. Only then can we be certain that the weapon we own is doing what we purchased it for... protecting our families & each other.

This is a great news. Sandy springs, shooting USA in Roswell and now in Kennesaw. We are expanding indoor ranges throughout metro Atlanta. Hopefully outdoor ranges too. Hopefully they will host IDPA and/or USPSA there too.

Are you a Kennesaw resident with strong feelings about gun control? If so, I want to hear from you! Leave me a message if you want to take part in an upcoming Patch feature article about the gun culture of Cobb County.
