Nobel Laureate Lecture, Fit City Kennesaw

In local weather, the National Weather Service reports today will be mostly cloudy before gradually becoming sunny. The high will be near 67 with a low tonight around 40.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jody Williams will speak at today as part of the university's Pathways to Peace Lecture Series. Williams is the founding coordinator of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL). She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 in recognition of her efforts to bring about the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty.

Williams will speak at two forums at Kennesaw State, located at 1000 Chastain Rd. in Kennesaw. The first forum will take place at 2 p.m. at Prillaman Hall, Room 1000. The second will take place at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are available here.

Ahead this weekend, will officially kick off with an event on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the . Baseline health screenings for cholesterol, weight, blood pressure and BMI will be offered to Kennesaw residents for free, while non-residents will be charged a $20 fee. Nutritional counseling and assistance with goal setting will be available, and  speakers will provide testimonials about their weight loss journeys.
