NorthStar Church Collects Donations for Tornado Victims

The church will be collecting items to benefit the Red Cross in Dade and Catoosa counties.

Sunday, and throughout the week, will be collecting donations for tornado victims as part of its monthly Big Give outreach effort.

While the church had originally planned to collect socks and underwear on behalf of Cobb DFACs, both organizations agreed that the items should be re-routed to immediately help victims of the recent tornadoes which devastated parts of the southeast, including Georgia's Dade and Catoosa counties.

Communications Pastor Randy Elster said the church will collect socks and underwear in the lobby of the main building on Sunday, May 1. Items can also be dropped off in the church office on Monday, May 2.

Additionally, NorthStar will collect clothing and blankets from now until Thursday, May 5, at Dickson's Tae Kwon Do Plus in the Brookstone Kroger shopping center, located at 1720 Mars Hill Road in Acworth.

Elster, who has been on staff at the church for the past 10 years and has served as Communications Pastor for a year and a half, said it's important to help our neighbors in their time of need.

“You know, it’s just another aspect of a small town community,” he said. “It's what makes living in our area so great is that we do take care of each other."

“It could have gone right over Acworth just as easily as it went over the other counties," he said. "We’re happy to help them."

All donations will benefit the Red Cross in Dade and Catoosa counties.

"You know, when we started the church 14 years ago, one of the big parts about it that we started with is it would be a church that gives, a church that serves its community," said Elster.

“We ask people to give, and they always give and give and give and serve and serve,” he said. "It’s just an incredibly loving, giving, serving community.”

NorthStar Church is located at 3413 Blue Springs Rd. in Kennesaw and . Services are held Sunday mornings at 9:30 and 11. Beginning May 1, the church will also host a new five-week "Wise Up" series as Senior Pastor Mike Linch examines "great old truths in the book of Proverbs."
