5 Great Nonprofits Making a Difference

• Friends of Camp McDonald Park is a nonprofit volunteer organization whose members share a dream to form a park in the heart of downtown Kennesaw. The seven and a half acre park site located across from city hall was purchased by Cobb County, and the organization is working together with Cobb County Parks and Recreation, the Cultural Affairs Department and the City of Kennesaw to make this park a reality. Why the name Camp McDonald Park? This location was a former Civil War Confederate army training camp called Camp McDonald.

• (CLI) is a worldwide nonprofit organization headquartered in Acworth. Founded in 1996, CLI is an outreach program for at-risk youth which is based on a mentoring partnership between adult volunteers and children. Youth who struggle with drug problems, family problems, are living on the streets and/or have had run-ins with the law are the demographic this organization strives to help. CLI has helped thousands of children in Georgia, across the country and abroad.
• The (EVHS) in Cartersville serves Bartow County and surrounding areas. EVHS places dogs and cats in homes and with rescue organizations. The organization hopes to increase membership and funds from private donors so many more animals can be rescued. EVHS also inserts microchips, spays and neuters, provides immunizations and de-worms pets.
• The , based in Cartersville, provides Bartow County students with financial aid services and scholarships to assist young adults in pursuing post-secondary education. Since formation of this foundation, 3,000 Bartow County students have been helped with funding for their education. To date, the Etowah Foundation awarded over 3 million dollars for the students to attend college.
• Destiny's Daughters of Promise, an organization out of Acworth, provides programs of leadership and mentoring to teen girls to build self esteem, confidence and character development.  The nonprofit believes that the young women of Destiny’s Daughters of Promise will leave their program encouraged to excel in education and future endeavors. The girls of this organization give back to the community and recently participated in a clean-up day at Lake Acworth.
