Smith-Gilbert Gardens Offering Beekeeping Workshops

Dan Harris of Booger Hill Bee Company will teach participants how to build a hive, establish and care for bees and harvest honey.

Kennesaw’s Smith-Gilbert Gardens will be offering a seven-month in-depth beekeeping program for beginners starting this fall.

Dan Harris of Booger Hill Bee Company will teach participants how to build a hive, establish and care for bees and harvest honey.

The workshops will begin on Saturday, Dec. 7, and will meet the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon in December, January and February and the first Sunday of the month from 1 to 3 p.m. in March, April and June.

A wrap-up session will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The cost of the program is $225.

Harris’ comprehensive seven-month program teaches the beginner everything from the history of beekeeping, hive construction, care of the hive and harvesting of honey.  Participants will build their own hives.

"Respect for the honey bee and the important work it does in our world, sharing timeless beekeeping skills, and the production of pure unprocessed wild flower honey is what we are all about," Harris said.
