Swift-Cantrell 5K to Feature Youth Running Group

The race is the culmination of Kilometer Kids, an 11-week program designed to promote healthy and active lifestyles among children between the ages of 5 and 13 years old.

After weeks of training, a group of area children will lace up their tennis shoes and join other runners participating in this Saturday's Swift-Cantrell Classic 5K.

The race is the culmination of Kilometer Kids, an 11-week program designed to promote healthy and active lifestyles among children between the ages of 5 and 13 years old.

The Kilometer Kids have met on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Swift-Cantrell Park, played games, done drills and participated in running activities.

“We hope kids learn that health and fitness can be easy and rewarding and that getting outdoors is a whole lot more fun than sitting around in front of the TV or computer,” said City Councilmember Cris Welsh, the program’s facilitator. “Our Kennesaw kids are also working toward earning a grant from the (Atlanta) Track Club by serving as volunteers at this year’s Atlanta Marathon.”
