The Day the Web Stood Still, Hudson Book Signing

Here's a morning rundown of what you need to know on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

In local weather, the National Weather Service reports today will be sunny with a high near 48 and a low around 26.

Despite sunny skies outside, there's a blackout online. Wikipedia and Google are among 7,000-plus websites participating in a blackout today in protest of H.R. 3261, the Stop Online Piracy Act.

Opponents of the bill argue that its passage would give the government censorship tools that could threaten free speech. Wikipedia is going dark for 24 hours, meaning students will have to look elsewhere when researching their college papers today. While Google is still functional, a black box covers the logo on its homepage. A link below the search bar states,"Tell Congress: Please don't censor the web!"
