Video: Police and Community Covering the Bases for Special Needs

A 24-hour fundraiser to support special needs children and young adults took place at the Horizon Field in Acworth over the weekend.

The was packed over the weekend with children and teens who are excited to start the fall baseball season, and thousands who came to participate in the Covering the Bases fundraiser. Among them were students and staff from in Kennesaw, who hosted a bake sale to raise funds for the special needs field.

The 24-hour fundraiser hosted by the included baseball games, concerts, and dance performances, and hundreds of people continued walking the bases through the night.

This year’s event attracted more than 50 local and national sponsors. Some community members also started their own fundraising efforts to help maximize the amount of donations.

Covering the Bases helped raise more than $64,000 in the past three years for special needs children and young adults participating in the Horizon League.
