Whiz Kids: KMHS Varsity Girls Tennis Team

This week, Patch would like to recognize the Kennesaw Mountain High School Varsity Girls Tennis Team for their outstanding accomplishments.

The Girls Tennis Team recently beat out eight teams to become region 4-5A Champions.

Led by Coach Chris Jackson, they went on to state and progressed to the second round, finishing up their season on Tuesday, April 26.

The girls said they attained their victory by working hard and practicing everyday during their regular season, unless it was raining or they had a game scheduled. They also attribute some of their success to becoming close as a team both on and off the court.

Their awards banquet will be held at the Marietta Country Club on May 3. They will also have a pool party May 7 to celebrate their accomplishments and bid goodbye to the three senior members of their team, Courtney Elledge, Sara Roberts and Tori Hicks.

"This season has been amazing. We have made so many outstanding accomplishments, and I couldn't be more proud of my team. It is an astonishing feeling to graduate saying that we are Region Champions. I'm so proud of all of us, and for the girls returning next year, I wish them the best," said graduating senior Courtney Elledge.

The team was officially recognized for their accomplishments by Mayor Mark Mathews and the city during the April 18 city council meeting.
