Whiz Kids: New Eagle Scouts Honored

This week, we would like to recognize three new Eagle Scouts from Kennesaw Boy Scout Troop 510: John Norseen, Morgan Smith and David Reese.

An Eagle Court of Honor was held at the on Sunday, May 29, celebrating the achievements of John Norseen, Morgan Smith and David Reese of Kennesaw Boy Scout Troop 510.

The young men were recognized as new Eagle Scouts, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts. The rank is awarded upon completion of a community service project designed and directed by the scout, service in a leadership position in the scout’s troop and the acquisition of 21 merit badges.

The merit badges include such things as Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Science, Personal Management, Family Life, and Citizenship in the Community, Nation and World, among others. The highly respected rank is recognized as a significant honor and is considered to be an admirable achievement even later in life.

Only four percent of scouts ever attain the rank of Eagle.

The ceremony was called to order by Vicki Quertermous, a.k.a. “Ms. Q," and opened with the presentation of the colors by members of Troop 510. Quertermous thanked the leaders of Troop 510 for guiding the scouts’ citizenship toward the rank of Eagle. The ceremony also included a candle lighting, a Masonic presentation and the reading of the Scout Law and Oath.

Leaders from the troop, as well as the scouts' parents, reflected on the boys' careers in scouting. The new Eagle Scouts accepted their awards and, in turn, presented awards to their mentors and parents for their support.

Kennesaw Patch would like to honor and recognize Whiz Kids and new Eagle Scouts John Norseen, Morgan Smith and David Reese. Thank you for your service to our community, and congratulations on this prestigious honor.
