The fourth event in the Kennesaw Grand Prix Series of 5K races, the Great Locomotive Chase, will be held Saturday, September 7 at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Kennesaw.
The race for adults and children benefits the Kennesaw Museum Foundation; proceeds go to the support of educational and outreach programs at the Southern Museum.
The race follows a fast, flat route through historic downtown Kennesaw and Swift-Cantrell Park and is for beginners and accomplished runners and walkers alike.
The route is a Certified 5K Peachtree Road Race Qualifier course.
The Grand Prix 5K series is part of the Kennesaw Fit City initiative, which encourages participants to combat obesity and inactivity and improve their quality of life. The final two races are the Garden Gallop on Nov. 2 and the Faith Cline Elf Trot on Dec. 14.
The One Mile Fun Run starts at 7:30 a.m., the 5K race begins at 8 a.m. and the Tot Trot starts at 8:45 a.m.
A $100 cash prize will be given to the top male and female finisher as well as the top Masters Division male and female finisher. Special awards will be given for all overall champions in running divisions and top three in each age bracket.
Registration is open now. The general entry fee is $25 per person and includes free admission into the museum with a race number.
All registered 5K participants will receive an official race technical-shirt, runner/walker number and goodie bag. Registration is available online at any Big Peach Running Company location.
