Kennesaw Educator Named 'Reach for the Stars' Charter School Teacher of the Year

Keynoting the GCSA Educators' Conference is Kennesaw State University senior Travis Allen.

Charley Walper, a second grade teacher at Kennesaw Charter Science & Math Academy, will receive the Georgia Charter Schools Association's "Reach for the Stars" award as 2013-14 Charter School Teacher of the Year.

Walper  as well as the "Shoot for the Moon" Charter School Leader of the Year, Suttiwan Cox of Dekalb PATH Academy, will be honored at the Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA) Charter Educators’ Conference, Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Busbee Center at Gwinnett Technical College, Lawrenceville.

The full-day conference targets teachers, school leaders and academic administrators, offering 15 sessions on charter school best practices. PLU credits are available for qualified registrants and on-site walk-in registration is available on the day of the Conference.

Keynoting the GCSA Educators’ Conference is Kennesaw State University senior Travis Allen. Allen is "a visionary whose goal is nothing short of revolutionizing education by turning all students into digital learners," according to a GCSA press release.

Allen created the nonprofit iSchool initiative to help teachers integrate digital technology in the classroom after being reprimanded for using his smartphone to take notes in class.  Along with 11 other young “digital natives” Travis is traveling the country, training students and teachers in technology.
