Fabric.com Coming to Kennesaw

The Franklin Road-based fabric distributor is moving its headquarters to Kennesaw later this summer.

East Marietta's loss is Kennesaw's gain.

Fabric.com, one of the largest fabric distributors in the country, will soon be leaving its headquarters on Franklin Road for new space in Kennesaw, The Marietta Daily Journal reported Monday.

The company,  in East Cobb Patch, is taking its estimated 150 employees to the 200,000 square feet of space in the Jiles Commerce Center on Jiles Road.

The newspaper reported the expansion could enable the company to grow to 200 employees and possibly more.

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce estimates that $4 million will be invested in the new Fabric.com facility in order to keep the company and the jobs in the county. Support came from the county, state and city of Kennesaw, along with the Cobb and Kennesaw Development Authorities, according to the Chamber.

“Having Fabric.com relocate to our community demonstrates our commitment to supportingthe growth of business and jobs,” said Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews. “We’re very excited to see vacant industrial space becoming attractive to expanding businesses. The skilled labor pool, exceptional educational options and superior quality of life offered by Kennesaw and Cobb County make it an obvious choice for developing companies.”

Fabric.com, founded by currrent CEO Stephen Friedman in 1993, was originally named Phoenix Textiles Group, starting as a wholesale distributor of apparel fabrics. The concept went online with the establishment of Fabric.com in 1999.
