Help Your Pet Live Long and Prosper

Back in the 1960’s it was common for household pets to live a long and healthy life well into the age of 15 or even as long as 20 for some cats. Today, our furry friends are being struck down by cancer at the same rate as humans – or 1 in 4.

Now, according to the Veterinary Oncology & Hematology Center, scientists link cancer to the prepared diets that began to be made by the larger pet food companies. That’s why Bark & Beg Organics, located in Town Center Mall, Kennesaw, only uses whole grains, fruits and vegetables in the baked treats they sell. They also carry a full line of organic dog food, especially for those dogs with sensitive digestive systems.

I know my Siberian Husky, Dutchy, has always had a fussy stomach and does better on a gluten-free diet. Most prepared dog foods are packed with corn, soy or wheat filler, which does irritate some dogs. But, even dogs without a sensitive constitution can benefit from the organic treats and food that is baked right in the store!

Also, because there aren’t any artificial flavors or colors mixed into the treats, there are less ingredients to cause allergic symptoms to an allergy prone dog.  When I had my Shar Pei, Mongo, he’d often have to go to the vet for shots for his allergies. He’d get skin rashes and even doggy acne.  I wish I’d know more about feeding him organically, because I think I could have saved myself some vet bills.
