Cobb County Board Almost Closed Kennesaw Library

Kennesaw residents recently had a scare in April when the Cobb County Board of Commissioners met to decide whether to close 13 out of the 17 county libraries. Our own wonderful library, in downtown Kennesaw, was on the close list.

What that would have meant is that:

  • No more toddler’s story hours.
  • No more Summer Reading Programs
  • And, no more access to computers to needy job seekers.

Our town would have been a poorer place to live if that decision had gone forward to save Cobb County some budget money. So, let’s help the Library Foundation out by supporting its next “Booked for Lunch.” The featured speaker for the Friday, May 27, 2011, soiree will be Jeffrey Stepakoff, author of three books. His first book “Billion Dollar Kiss” shared the inside story about what it was like to be a television writer and screenplay writer in Hollywood during the 1980’s heyday of sitcoms. Stepakoff wrote for such popular programs as “Dawson’s Creek,” “Sisters,” and “The Wonder Years.”

He then returned to his roots by moving back to Atlanta with his family and he settled in as a new professor at Kennesaw State University in the MA in Professional Writing program. He’s a popular teacher as he informs students about ins-and-outs of the Hollywood scene. He has also written a new novel called “Fireworks over Toccoa” which was featured during a “Fireworks Under the Gold Dome” event at the Capitol. Look for Stepakoff’s next book, “The Orchard,” to be released soon.
