Don't Feel Guilty

Take time for you, so you can take care of everyone else.

Every muscle in your body hurts and you’re just aching to get a massage, but it seems like such an extravagance in terms of money and time. Yet, many different activities make up a good wellness routine and massage is just one of those elements in addition to nutrition, exercise and chiropractic care. So don’t feel guilty when you call to schedule that massage!

Physical, mental and emotional health benefits of massage:

Massage, when it is combined with chiropractic care can be an unbeatable team.

  • Massage improves the circulation of oxygen-carrying blood to the extremities and helps in eliminate wastes from the body
  • Massage relaxes you, relieves stress and anxiety, and supports feelings of general wellbeing
  • Massage works with your chiropractic care to retrain muscles that support your spine
  • Massage helps in managing the pain associated with certain physical conditions, such as arthritis and sciatica
  • Massage serves to either stimulate or relax the nervous system, depending on the type of massage being administered
  • Massage may have an effect on weight loss it helps to burst fat capsules and the fat is reabsorbed into the bloodstream

Just keep in mind that a massage is not a substitute for chiropractic care! Although the two may work in conjunction with one another, a massage provides “feel good” therapy while chiropractic adjustments keep your nervous system functioning properly. That’s far more important than a temporary “feel good” luxury!

We partner here at Eaton Chiropractic with Jamie Damiani of Body Bliss Massage. She served the Atlanta Beat women's soccer team with us. She is running a Black Friday special: $35 for a 1-hour massage.

Swedish Massage:
Swedish relaxation massage is probably the most commonly used technique in the Western massage community. Swedish massage refers to a collection of techniques designed primarily to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The lymph system and veins (which carry blood back to the heart) both rely on muscle action, rather than heart pressure. Oil is usually used. The recipient of a Swedish massage may be completely undressed or remain in underwear.

Sports Massage:
Sports massage comprises of deep tissue work which incorporates specific techniques focussing on dysfunctional or tight areas. These techniques include stretches or movements that aim to re-align the fibres of overused muscles. Sports massage is beneficial for athletes training at high levels and receiving regular sports massage is vital for the reduction of injuries. It improves an athlete’s flexibility and technique, overall enhancing their performance.

Trigger Point:
Applies concentrated finger pressure to tender areas in the muscle in order to break the cycle of spasm and pain. Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two. Deep tissue work varies greatly.

Prenatal massage or massage during pregnancy:
Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.

Massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage, which aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended prenatal massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy.
