My Friend's child is on VAYARIN for ADHD, What is it? Wondering if my child should be on it!

VAYARIN, is an FDA approved medication for ADHD in children and I have utilized it in my practice in both children and adults and had success stories...no, it doesn't work for everyone....but nothing works for everyone...

what is in Vayarin? It is omega 3 fatty acids hooked to an agent so it will cross the blood brain barrier and get into the brain, most omega 3 fatty  acids we take as supplements go to rest of our body, but not so much to brain....so it is,if you will, fish oil for the brain....

If have an ALLERGY to SHELL FISH, YOU CANNOT Take Vayarin! Otherwise, it seems to be very safe and is considered a "prescription food!"

For someone new to ADHD meds, especially if more inattention issues versus Hyperactivity  issues, I am finding Vayarin. To be a great starting place these days! Dosing starts at 2 pills oer day and can be increased to 4 per day, and need to give it 30-60 days for an adequate trial to see if it is effective for an individual!

most insurance companies do not cover it unfortunately...however, it seems Costco around here has best pricing around $55 per month.....but well worth the investment if it works for you and, a safer alternative to stimulant medications.

Again, please ask your physician about it and if it may be right for your child or not and please never stop medication you are currently taking or that your child is currently taking without consulting the prescribing physician first!

Hope this helps! But I am very impressed with Vayarin overall so far and see it as another medication that can help with ADHD symptoms with few to no side effects!
