9/11, Taste of Kennesaw, Football

Here are 5 things you need to know in Kennesaw for Sept. 9.

1. There's plenty to do outside this weekend, and the weather is going to cooperate. Kennesaw and surrounding areas will be busy hosting festivals as well as various somber events to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies today with a high near 79. For tonight's football games, it will be mostly clear, with a low around 57. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 82. 

2. This morning, Allatoona High School's Navy JROTC will be hosting a somber ceremony to remember those we lost 10 years ago. There will be a guest speaker who was a first responder in New York City on that day. The event will be held on the football field from 9:11 a.m. to 10 a.m.

On Sunday at 10 a.m., will be the guest speaker at Victory North Church and will speak on 9/11 recollections. Victory North holds services at Palmer Middle School, 690 N. Booth Road NW, Kennesaw.

3. Next up this weekend is the ever-popular Taste of Kennesaw Festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the downtown Kennesaw area. The Kennesaw Business Association, and sponsor Superior Plumbing invite residents to sample over 40 local restaurants from the Kennesaw and Cobb County area.  Who doesn’t like to eat?  Samples range from $1 to $4. The annual event benefits four local charities in Kennesaw.

The free event will have local entertainment all day and culminate with Banks and Shane in concert at 6:00 p.m. The Taste of Kennesaw beer garden will feature the acoustic sounds of Scott Thompson from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children's activities will also abound. 4. Are you ready for some football? Games tonight include Fellowship Christian at North Cobb Christian; Harrison at Milton; Sprayberry at Kennesaw Mountain; Lassiter at North Cobb; and Mt. 5. Interesting fact: The groundbreaking ceremony for the Pentagon took place on September 11, 1941— exactly 60 years before the terrorist attack in 2001.
