Budget Talks, New Park, 9/11 Anniversary

Here's what you need to know in Kennesaw for August 31.

1. August goes out like it came in -- hot.Β  Today's forecast from the National Weather Service calls for mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 68.

2. The Cobb Board of Commissioners will host a special called public hearing today at 2 p.m. on the The adopted fiscal year 2011 budget was $328 million and the proposed fiscal year 2012 budget is $321 million. The meeting will be held in the Board of Commissioners Room on the second floor of 100 Cherokee St. in Marietta. The meeting can also be viewed online at cobbcounty.org/tv23. 3. Kennesaw residents are invited to join Friends of Price Park for an open house at the undeveloped Leone Hall Price Park 8:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. Members of the volunteer nonprofit organization will be giving tours of the park so the public can see what a unique place it is and will continue to become with community support. Family, friends and pets are invited. This more than 100-acre park features a beautiful meadow, creek and woods. The park is located on the south side of Stilesboro Road in Kennesaw, between Acworth Due West Road and Mars Hill Road. The sign "Future Home of Leone Hall Price Park" marks the parking lot entrance. 4. What are you going to do to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11? The Kiwanis Club of Marietta will remember the tragic day with its Field of Flags installation. As one of the largest commemorative events in the nation, a flag will be placed in Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park for each life lost on Sept. 11. On Saturday, Sept. 10, the processional of flags will travel about one mile from Grace Community Church on Kennesaw Avenue to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Line-up begins at 7 a.m. and the parade starts at 8 a.m., rain or shine.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, the memorial service in remembrance of the lives lost begins at 7:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle. The reading of names and ringing of bells will begin at 8:48 a.m. The flags will fly through Friday, Sept. 16. For more information, visit 911fieldofflags.com.

5. Regarding the 9/11 attack: What took place at 9:40 a.m. that day for the first time in the history of the U.S.?Β  Answer: All air traffic was halted by the Federal Aviation Administration.
