Good Hands, Homecoming, Job Stats

Here are 5 things you need to know in Kennesaw for Sept. 23

1. It's going to be a fabulous weather weekend for outdoor activities. After some much-needed rain yesterday, the National Weather Service is calling for just 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and mostly cloudy skies with a high near 78. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 57. The weekend looks great, with sunny skies and highs in the low 80s.

2. seniors Emily Jones and Grant Titus were recently selected the "Good Hands Athletes of the Month." This award is sponsored by Allstate Insurance and Henry's Louisiana Grill and is presented to student athletes who represent leadership on their teams, their schools and their community--both on and off the field. Jones is on the varsity softball team, and Titus is a linebacker on the varsity football team. Presenting the award was local Allstate agent Joe Baker, and NCCS upper/middle school principal Megan Strange was also on hand.

3. Kennesaw State University started its homecoming week festivities last night. Check back at 9 a.m. on Kennesaw Patch to see what the first event was at Town Center Mall. Festivities will include a KSU Owls soccer match vs. Belmont tonight, as well several day-long pre-game events. It ends with the “Owl Prowl” on Friday, Sept. 30, which includes a parade around campus beginning at 4 p.m., a festival on the Campus Green following the parade, and a free outdoor concert on the Campus Green by "The Maine."

4. Unemployment figures were released this week and Kennesaw's changed very little from July to August 2011. Last month's figure was 11.1, and July was 11.2. August 2010's rate was 12.0.

5. KSU fact: The Coles College of Business is the second largest business school in Georgia and has the largest number of undergraduate and graduate business majors of any public university in Georgia.
