Homecoming Help, Chefs, Cops

Here are 5 things you need to know in Kennesaw for Sept. 27.

1. September is really starting to feel like fall. The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies, with a pleasant high near 80. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 57.

2. The PTSA is in need of parent volunteers for the Homecoming Dance on Oct. 8.  Volunteers are needed to help serve refreshments, chaperone, and work with coat check. If you are unable to help at the dance, but want to do something else, organizers are asking for donations of gallon-sized lemonade and water for the dance. 3. The Cobb Signature Chefs Auction to benefit the Georgia March of Dimes is Thursday at 6 p.m. at the in Kennesaw. The event hosts 15 to 25 of the finest chefs, caterers and/or local celebrity chefs as they present their signature dishes to guests. Guests will enjoy dinner and bid on a number of unique live auction items. Auction packages include fine dining, hotel and resort stays, weekend getaways, spa vacations, and much more.  Jenn Hobby from Q 100 is coming, as are top chefs including Marc Taft from Chicken and the Egg, Johnnie Gabriel, Mamie's Cupcakes, Tom McEachern from Ray's on the River. 4. Tonight at 7 p.m. is the quarterly PENS meeting at Precinct Five, located on Dallas Highway in west Cobb. All residents are invited to gain information about the program and ask any questions they may have. PENS stands for The Police Email Notification System and is maintained by Cobb Police Department to enhance communication between residents and the five police precincts. The program focuses on informing and educating residents of actual crimes occurring and prevention techniques. The guest speaker will be Det. Ray Yeager, of the High Tech Crimes Unit. He will discuss computer and Internet-related crimes and prevention. The meeting will be held at 4640 Dallas Highway. 5. Fact: The Cobb County Police Department has over 600 sworn officers and 150 civilian employees.
