Kennesaw Seeks Santa Parade Entries

The parade begins at 1 p.m. Dec. 1.

The City of Kennesaw will celebrate the start of the Christmas holiday season with a parade, entertainment and tree lighting downtown on Saturday, December 1.

The festivities are highlighted by a parade in downtown Kennesaw featuring local marching bands and musical ensembles, costumed characters, designer floats and live reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh. The parade, which begins at 1 p.m., will last about one hour. The parade route begins near the intersection of Park Drive and Main Street, and will proceed south and east down Main Street past Cherokee Street toward Sardis Street. Parade-goers should arrive early to ensure a good viewing location, and dress in layers to keep warm.

Additional attractions near the Depot until 6 p.m. include visits with Santa, live music and dance performances featuring Kennesaw Parks & Recreation programs and a seasonal variety of food vendors, crafts, and general merchandise. Children’s activities will include a petting zoo and pony rides, inflatable slides, bounces, games and other fun activities.

The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History will offer free admission on December 1 from 9:30 am to 7 pm. Items in the The General Emporium museum gift shop will be discounted 10 percent for the general public; museum members will receive 20 percent off. An event titled Christmas on the Home Front will take place from 1-5 pm, consisting of a living history civil war encampment on the front lawn as well period dancing inside. Re-enactors will be drilling young recruits while Southern Belles play period games and decorate holiday cards.

A Christmas tree lighting program with live music and sing-a-long will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Depot. The Depot is located at 2828 Cherokee Street across the street from the Southern Museum. For more information, or if you represent an organization who is interested in entering a float or walking group in the parade, visit www.kennesaw-ga.gov/pkrec.
