More Heat, Labor Numbers, Football

1. There's a lot going on this weekend in Kennesaw, and the weather will cooperate. The National Weather Service says it will be sunny and hot today with a high near 95. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low of 68. Saturday's high will be 92, but there may be winds gusting as high as 25 mph, thanks to our friend Hurricane Irene.

2. Thursday's labor department numbers showed the unemployment rate in metro Atlanta decreased to 10.4 percent in July, down one-tenth of a percentage point from 10.5 percent in June. The jobless rate in metro Atlanta in July a year ago was also 10.4 percent. The rate declined because there were 14,000 more residents of metro- Atlanta employed in July than in June. There were also fewer layoffs in healthcare and social assistance, educational services, and accommodations and food services. July marked the 48th consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is currently 9.1 percent, down from 9.2 percent in June.
