Parks & Rec, Farmers Market, Tooth Fairy

Here are 5 things you need to know in Kennesaw for August 23.

1. After a very hot weekend, the dog days of August will continue this week, says the National Weather Service. Today will be sunny, with a high near 89. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 64.

2. The recently celebrated the opening of their new ceramic studio with a ribbon-cutting event attended by the Mayor and City Council.   The new 1,300-square-foot facility is located behind the Ben Robertson Community Center in Adams Park. It will provide a much needed studio/classroom, and glazing and firing space for community programs. It houses nine pottery wheels, seven kilns, work tables, a glazing area, storage space, shelving for greenware and bisqueware, and an ADA compliant restroom.

3. And, speaking of the Parks and Rec Department, their new fall 2011 class brochure is now available. New classes include Spanish, stroller fitness, dog obedience, and social media marketing, as well as augmentative communication, bingo nights, and social play classes for children with special needs. 4. Summer is winding down, so don't forget to go by today and visit the Kennesaw Farmers Market for some delicious summer veggies and other goodies. The market is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday in the soccer parking lot of Adams Park.

5. Today is National Tooth Fairy Day. It celebrates one of childhood's favorite visitors. The Tooth Fairy is an American tradition with European and superstitious roots.
