Rail Public Hearing, Car Show, 5K Race

Here are 5 things you need to know in Kennesaw for Sept. 8.

1. We should finally see the sun today, according to the National Weather Service. It's calling for partly sunny skies, with a high near 75. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 57.

2. Continuing our coverage of 9/11 events planned in our area: The is hosting the "Let Freedom Ring"  Tribute Car and Truck Show for 911 Responders and Survivors on Saturday Sept, 10 at from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. National Guard, Marines, Army, Navy, local police and fire stations will be participating. There will be live entertainment, vendors and door prizes. Please comment below if you know of any other events planned in or around Kennesaw this weekend for the 9/11 anniversary.

3. Tonight is on the possibility of light rail coming to Cobb. It will be held at at 7:30 p.m. The previous meetings have been filled with contrasting comments on the project -- come out and let your voice be heard.

4. Parents and kids alike will be racing to sign up for the third annual hosted by the Kennesaw Museum Foundation on Saturday, Sept. 10. There is a race for everyone to enjoy from the 5K to the One Mile Fun Run and the Tot Trot. The 5K will start at 8 a.m., the One Mile Fun Run will start at 7:30 a.m. and the Tot Trot will start at 8:45 a.m. The cost for each individual is $25 and includes free admission into the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History with a race number. All proceeds from the Great Locomotive Chase 5K go to support the educational and outreach programs at the Southern Museum.

This year’s race starts at , up through and finishes in historic downtown, just in time for the kick off of the Taste of Kennesaw. There will be food and drinks provided for all runners after the race. Visit www.greatlocomotiverace.com for registration and race details.

5. Fact about 9/11: It took 99 days for the fires at Ground Zero to be extinguished completely. At 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, the fires started as the first plane hit the North Tower. The remaining fires were eventually put out on Dec. 19, 2001.
