LIVE MUSIC: Dwight Raby Band, JUMP KITCHEN, WOODSTOCK

Dwight Raby’s musical journey began later in life than some. He picked up a guitar while studying in Kenya during his sophomore year at St. Lawrence University. About this time, Eric Clapton’s “Unplugged” album came out and he found himself drawn to Clapton’s influences – old school American blues artists. Upon moving to Atlanta for graduate school he was drawn into the music scene by local icon Franciso Vidal, and has spent the last 10 years playing all over the Southeast. Dwight’s first EP – a five song solo effort – wass influenced by classic soul artists in the vein of Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye. His second CD with his band Big D and the Refugees, continues to build on his love for classic American soul and roots music while incorporating the rock and jam-band sensibilities of his partners Jeff Beach and Frank Lisco. He is also starting a side project with drummer Travis Jones and former Sundomingo and current Edwin McCain bassist Jason Pomar.“Big D” can be found playing 2-3 nights a week all over Atlanta either solo, with Big D and the Refugees, or with various other Atlanta area artists. Over the years he’s been lucky enough to share stages with national acts like Michael Tolcher, Angie Aparo, Zac Brown, John Mayer, Cowboy Mouth and Air Supply.
