OBITUARY for Mr. Dennis James Gerschick, of Kennesaw, GA

Dennis James Gerschick (57), loving family man and accomplished professional, of Kennesaw, GA and Beulah, Michigan passed away on December 8, 2013.  He suffered a massive heart attack while on a business trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 20, 2013.  Dennis married Jane Freeland, a native of Beulah, on March 27, 1983.  Above all else he was most proud of the family they built together.

He will be deeply missed and loved always by his wife and best friend of 33 years, Jane Freeland-Gerschick.  Together, they had four children:  Tyrone London Hudson Gerschick (30) of Atlanta, GA; Taylore Leigh Jane Gerschick (27), Tanner Miles Greyson Gerschick (23), & Renner James Preston Gerschick (23) all of Kennesaw, GA.  He is also survived by his two furry, four-legged “Chow”dren, Penny & Conrad, who loved him and walked with him every day.

Dennis also leaves behind his beloved mother, Marie Antoinette (Warren) Sander of Palm City, FL; his brother Donald (Patty) Gerschick of Lake Worth, FL; sister Mary Knight of Winston-Salem, NC, and many nieces and nephews, all of which he dearly loved.  To heaven he follows his father, Richard Joseph Gerschick, and 3 brothers, Richard II, David, and Daniel (Goldie) Gerschick. Also deceased is his father-in-law, Duane E. Freeland, formerly of Beulah.

In his short, but full, life, Dennis accomplished many things. He was born on August 18, 1956 in Redford Twp. near Detroit, MI.  At the age of 11 he moved with his family to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and graduated from Jupiter High School.  In 1978, he graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a BS in Accounting.  He worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and Ernst & Young in West Palm Beach, FL as a CPA.  He then attended Drake Law School in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated in 1983.  Immediately following, he worked for a law firm in Des Moines, known now a Whitfield & Eddy.  In 1985 he moved to the Atlanta, GA area and worked in one of Atlanta’s largest law firms, Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy, in its International Tax department.  In 1990, he obtained the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst and also opened his own law firm, Gerschick and Associates.  In 1998, Dennis formed a venture capital firm called VenCap Opportunities Fund.  Later, in 2004, he started a seminar company called Regal Seminars where he enjoyed speaking at seminars to continue professional education of attorneys, CPA, and other legal and financial professionals.  All 3 companies still exist.  Dennis enjoyed constantly learning and using that knowledge to advise and help others, as an attorney, financial advisor, speaker, and most importantly, a father.

He wasn’t here for a long time, but he was here for a “good” time. Dennis loved people.  Family, friends, food and drink were his favorite things in life and he NEVER wanted to miss out on a gathering or outing.  Dennis seized every opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends as well as every opportunity to meet someone new. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, reading, snow skiing, canoeing, hiking and other outdoor activities.  He loved Benzie County, its people, and the beauty of Crystal Lake. He had hoped to make it his permanent home.
