Community Blood Drive

The City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department is hosting an American Red Cross Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, October 25 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Ben Robertson Community Center. Most healthy people who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate blood every 56 days. Click on the link below to schedule an appointment online, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Walk-ins are also welcome.

Benefits of donating:
- It feels great to donate.
- You get free juice and cookies.
- It's something you can spare - most people have blood to spare... yet, there is still not enough to go around.
- You will help ensure blood is on the shelf when needed - most people don't think they'll ever need blood, but many do.
- You will be someone's hero. In fact, you may help as many as three people with just one donation.

Blood donors must:
- Be healthy. Healthy means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes, healthy also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.
- Be at least 17 years old in most states, or 16 years old with parental consent.
- Weigh at least 110 lbs. Additional weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school donors.

Other aspects of each potential donor's health history are discussed as part of the donation process before any blood is collected. Each donor receives a brief examination during which temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hemoglobin (or hematocrit) are measured.
