Feeling Cooped Up?

Don't be so quick to slam the door on Christmas just yet. As the good Reverend Wheeles would say, 'We are still celebrating the birth of Christ'.

The first Monday after Christmas is famously known as 'Blue Monday'; many people have repacked the decorations, work has resumed again and the kids are back to school.

But that does not mean that the holidays are over. And many people need them now more than ever. All those folks that received good-will between Thanksgiving and Christmas will get hungry again. Will get lonely again. Will feel 'blue' again.

While we continue to enjoy our gifts of celebration remember that the gift we have enjoyed the most is the company of others. Don't recluse and just wait out the next couple of months in anticipation of spring.

Put on a coat and get out.  People don't just 'visit' anymore. If you have family & friends nearby you should be having Sunday dinner regularly.

When is that last time you sent someone a hand-written letter. When each of my grandmothers passed away I was blessed to go through boxes of letters that they had received over the years and kept away someplace special. Facebook is pretty handy but it won't bless your heart like opening a hand-penned letter that says, irrespective of content, that I care enough about you that I took the time to do this.

A friend of mine lost their home and all of its contents to a fire a few years ago.  The other day, when the thermometer bottomed out and there was nothing much else to do, I grabbed a big  box of photographs down from a shelf in the garage. [Remember when we took all of our pictures with a camera, and then dropped the film at Walmart for the double-prints? - not so long ago] So as I poured through dozens of envelopes of photos it struck me that I did have many photos of my friend and their family and mutual friends that pre-dated that fire. Before I was finished I had separated several groups of mostly duplicate pictures that I wanted to send to my friend, other family members, and a few more that I will scan and post on facebook for others to enjoy.

It filled an otherwise lonesome and boring day with a little conjured up project that blessed my soul to do. And as I can see, in my mind's eye, the smile this will put on the faces of others I will continue to feel the warmth and wealth of the Christmas spirit!

God bless,
-Ringo
