Downtown Murals - Proposed

Wake up Kennesaw before downtown looks like Little Five Points!  Kennesaw just put together a new Arts and Culture Commission.  The Draft Minutes of Meeting, posted a few days ago, revealed a very disturbing reality of our town becoming the canvas for a hodgepodge of eyesores.
Please see the styles of "art" proposed for murals on the buildings of Pisano's - www.trekmatthews.com

Me Lyon ~ You should post this as a comment to the article describing the Commission . . . www.kennesaw.patch.com/groups/around-town/p/kennesaw-commission-tasked-to-oversee-public-art-projects

I thought about doing that exact thing after I saw the article generated after my comment here. Thanks.

I will fight tooth and nail to keep this stuff out of our city>

While I appreciate fine (and fun) art, and respect private businesses' right to decorate their buildings how they wish, none of the ones provided here really brings the right feel to the city of Kennesaw. The offices of Facebook and Children's Hospitals are a much different landscape than our city. I do hope the right people are in place to gauge the impact on our city - for the better. This is why I'm not an art critic, I suppose, because I don't get this stuff - for Kennesaw. Other avenues might be well served by the addition of these types of works.

BTW: The first link is incorrect to "Trek..." I found it though.

Thanks wmsmom. I made the correction to the typo to artist link.

The city was approached by the Atlanta Hawks for a substantial community partnership.. the committee was put together to see if this was a direction the city wanted to go and see if the city was interested. The committee is exploring that ...please get involved and let them know what if any direction you would or would not like to see this!

Cris Like the skate park situation, you and I will continue to be friends and disagree agreeable, but I will do all in my power to prevent these painting from being put in Kennesaw. I have already gotten involved and hope the entire town does also. This was not mentioned, but the Historical Preservation Commission denied the request for painting your building and the pizza place on Tuesday. I was at that meeting and believe the arts commission was thrown together without much planing on the cities part. Fact is, they have not elected officers and only 4 of them were at their first meeting. I suggest that every citizen look at the actual art that has been proposed and attend the art commission meeting on 1/16/14.

So the city of Kennesaw wants no murals in their precious downtown area, but its ok for people to have to walk by all the racist propaganda and confederate flags at Dent Meyers store. Just another great reason I left this town. Nothing is ever good enough for people trying to live in the past. Its 2014 Joe Bozeman, WAKE UP. It seems you have nothing better to do with your time than complain. ....
Mrs Lyon March 10, 2014 at 07:13 AM
Bless your cotton socks Mr. Petty. Appreciate you for sharing your view and for your choice to leave Kennesaw.
