About $4,500 was stolen from a Kennesaw company, and a warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man who Kennesaw police believe was responsible for the theft.

Between April 1 and May 1, investigators with the Kennesaw Police Department allege that Brett Martin Dexter of Woodstock removed the money from the petty cash safe "without the authority" of World Import Company, according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

"While speaking with Brett Dexter, he stated he had some financial hardship because he owed his brothers, the IRS and child support," the officer wrote in the warrant. "He also had asked the company for a payday advancement since he began employement with World Import Company on March 12, 2013."

Dexter faces a charge of theft by taking. It is a felony offense.
