Cobb Chamber CEO Arrested After Carrying Gun in Airport

Cobb Chamber CEO David Connell brought a loaded gun in his briefcase to the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. His attorney said it was a mistake.

Cobb Chamber CEO David Connell was arrested Wednesday morning after authorities discovered he had a loaded handgun in his briefcase at the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Connell was headed on a business trip, according to the Cobb Chamber.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Connell was arrested at 11:02 a.m. and transported to the Clayton County Jail. Connell’s attorney, Michael Maloof, told the newspaper he expected Connell to be released on bond later in the day. But WSB-TV reported at 5:45 p.m. that Connell was still in jail.

Connell’s .380 calibur handgun and two loaded clips were discovered at 7:40 a.m., the AJC reported.

Maloof and Chamber spokeswoman Amy Selby called the incident an accident and said Connell mistakenly brought the wrong briefcase to the airport.
