FedEx Shooter’s Life Offers Scant Clues for Reason to Attack

The 19-year-old Acworth man who police say shot six FedEx co-workers before killing himself Tuesday morning apparently left behind few clues as to why he chose to take such a dark and violent path.

Geddy Kramer had no known Facebook page or Twitter account, and as The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, went for the most part unnoticed within his almost 600-person graduation class last year at North Cobb High School.

But few people he worked with Tuesday are likely to forget Tuesday’s horrifying pre-dawn events at the Kennesaw FedEx distribution center where Kramer was employed to help load packages onto delivery trucks.

It was his shotgun that was loaded shortly before 6 a.m., when he wounded half-a-dozen people, including a 28-year-old security guard who was shot in the chest and remains in critical condition.

Three others are in stable condition, while two more were treated and released Tuesday.

Kramer’s grandmother, Betty Kramer, told the AJC about her grandson, “The only thing I can say is the last time I saw him, which was a couple of months ago, he was a happy, joking fellow – a typical 19-year-old kid.”

That was not the same person who at some point departed from the Acworth subdivision home he shared with his father and younger brother to make the short drive to Kennesaw.

Scott Kramer, Geddy’s father, released a statement Tuesday night through the Acworth Police Department:

"First and foremost, our family would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims of this morning's tragedy and their families. Our prayers are for their complete and speedy recovery. Our thoughts are also with all the workers at FedEx who were affected by Geddy's actions. We make no excuses for his actions and are shocked and devastated by them. There really are no adequate words at a time like this. Our family would appreciate our privacy at this very difficult time."

Geddy Kramer’s parents divorced in late 2012 after almost 21 years of marriage. Tracy Kramer, a registered nurse who works in Atlanta, offered a small peek into the world of her oldest son on her Facebook page late Monday afternoon.

She made her profile picture an older photograph of a younger Geddy, who is shown smiling with his hair dangling around his shoulders. She alluded to a recent change in Kramer's appearance, writing, “Geddy, my older boy. No braces now and shaves his head.”
